Gentle Poses for Tense Backs
Having a strong back is important, especially in sports or martial arts like Krav Maga, boxing or Muay Thai.
Apart from impact injuries, lower back pain in most martial arts commonly results from the twisting action of the waist and hips when punching or kicking.
Additionally, many practitioners tend to tense their entire bodies, especially their backs, as a natural reaction to the stress of anticipating violent contact with their opponents
To alleviate this tension, we've included gentle poses that stretch and open the shoulders, chest, arms, upper back, and neck. These poses help release the tension commonly held in the upper back and between the shoulder blades.
The back strengthening spinal sequence we practise, targets key areas of the spine to build strength and improve flexibility.
Beginning with Table Top Pose, which emphasizes proper alignment, it progresses through poses like Cat/Cow and Thread the Needle, each designed to mobilize and stabilize the vertebrae, particularly in the thoracic and lumbar regions. Locust Pose and Sphinx Pose are integrated to strengthen the lower back muscles, while Child Pose and Extended Puppy Pose gently decompress the spine.
This sequence addresses tension from the cervical spine down to the sacrum..
